SAINT PAUL VULCANS
A Family Friendly Organization
FIRE & BRIMSTONE
Brothers of Fire and Brimstone,
As we welcome and celebrate the rise of a new Krewe and a fresh year of Winter Carnival, we have a unique opportunity to honor where we came from while showing, in a powerful and visible way, who we are. We ask all members—new and old alike—to turn out and stand together by donning our red coats. Let us make a visual impact that reflects our shared legacy, our commitment to tradition, and the enduring bond of brotherhood that defines Fire and Brimstone. A united presence sends a clear message: our history matters, our members matter, and our fraternity remains strong.
Krewe Pickup is a great start to our Winter Carnival, providing us with an opportunity to catch up with new and old members but its primary purpose is to usher in the new Krewe and get their year started in a meaningful way. For the new Krewe, it is the first time they get to see the members of our organization out in force. Many of us can still remember how impactful it was to see the many members of F&B, in matching red coats and black pants, and we would like to create something equally as memorable for each new Krewe.
These gatherings mark important moments for our new Krewe and our organization to grow while providing a perfect opportunity for Fire and Brimstone to be seen in full force, united and proud in Red and Black! These moments are about more than attire. They are about respect for those who came before us, pride in the organization we represent, and support for the future we continue to build together. Stand proud. Wear the red coat so Fire and Brimstone can be seen, remembered, and celebrated. In Brotherhood. – the Board of Directors of The Imperial Order of Fire and Brimstone.

VULCANS – Fire & Brimstone
The Vulcans are a trademark of the Imperial Order of Fire and Brimstone (F&B). We are a members-only organization made up of former Vulcans. After completion of a successful running year, a new Krewe member may be selected to join our organization and continue the tradition. As of 2016, the Council of Fire Kings is now part of Fire and Brimstone formally incorporated into its bylaws.
Fire and Brimstone is a federally recognized 501(c)6 and Minnesota non-profit organization. Our board is composed of members in good standing and is responsible for decision making around the execution of the events, new Krewe on the street and fundraising activities. As an organization we also own the 1932 Luverne fire engine that is used by the new Krewe every year.
THE FOUNDING OF FIRE AND BRIMSTONE
The idea of Fire and Brimstone was floated around in 1950 when former members were looking for a way to mobilize the members and give them a sense of identity. At first it was a social group that would have some fun, throw a few events during the winter (and later in the summer) and help with the carnival. Over the next 10 years they kept adding to the program and eventually came out from obscurity as an official organization. (Although it wasn’t until 1984 that the organization would register as a non-profit with the State of Minnesota.) It was during these formative years that the uniform, the traditions – in fact the very groundwork was laid for what is today’s modern organization. In the early years, each member contributed individually to help drive events, forge the legen, procure uniforms, and much more. Today the tradition continues as much of the success Fire and Brimstone sees is on the merits of individual contributions from its members.
A legend passed down for over a century has formed the history of the Saint Paul Vulcan organization. Our membership is steeped in tradition, camaraderie and the stories and legends of the past are core to our cherished heritage.

Our Winter Carnival Legend
“A long, long time ago, Vulcanus Rex, the God of Fire, and the implacable enemy of Boreas, crackled in defiant disdain. By the great sword of Mars, I will temper the blustering of Boreas with the heat and roar of my forces. He was tireless in his bitter resistance to all the festivities of Boreas.”
