Tom Becken – Count of Ashes 1968 / Vulcanus Rex XLII 1979

Hammon (Tom) Thorwald Becken was called to his Heavenly Father on May 5, 2025. passing peacefully surrounded by his loving family. A man of faith and high integrity who valued hard work, community and family. He loved being part of the Winter Carnival Vulcans, highlighted by his role as Vulcanus Rex in 1979. Tom was also a proud and faithful supporter of 4H, the Lions, Concordia Academy, Northwestern College, St. Olaf College, and several nature-based preservation centers. May 15th, 1936 – May 5th, 2025.

Robert Crepeau – Count of Ashes, 1972

Cottage Grove, MN – On Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, we said goodbye to Robert Arthur Crepeau, Jr., age 81, at his home in Cottage Grove, MN. Robert was born on April 12th, 1944, in St. Paul, to Robert Sr. and Dorothea “Doll” (Hassler) Crepeau, while Robert Sr. was serving in Europe during World War II. “Bobby” as he was known in his early years, was the oldest of 3 and grew up on Montrose Lane in St. Paul, where he attended and graduated from Central High School in 1963. After high school, Robert attended the University of Minnesota and then enlisted in the Army National Guard, until his honorable discharge. April 12th, 1944 – June 10th, 2025.

Bill Sandison – General Flameous 1975 / Vulcanus Rex LIII 1990

Passed away peacefully at home in Estero, Florida, with his loving wife of 41 years, Connie, by his side. A hardworking entrepreneur and dedicated business owner, Bill had a passion for life and people. Whether boating on Gull Lake in Brainerd, golfing in Minnesota or Florida, or enjoying a cocktail with friends and family, Bill thrived in the company of those he loved. He is survived by his wife Connie, children Leslie (Paul) and Ross (Ellen), grandchildren Rachel (Evan), Lindsey (Sam), and Zoe, and great-granddaughter Grace. November 7th, 1943 – June 28th, 2025.

John Zobel – Count Embrious 1981 / Vulcanus Rex LIV 1991

Age 71 Passed away on February 17, 2025, Preceded in death by father, J. Steven Zobel Sr.; mother, Jaqueline Zobel; and aunt, Mildred Cory. John is survived by his wife of 42 years Claire (nee Homan); children Shawn (Micki) and Natalie; grandson Rudy; sister MaryBeth (Brian); brothers Mark (Kari) and Michael. Dear uncle of Cory (Jennifer) and Alex Hallman, Joey (Mary), Andy and Brett Zobel, Cora Spalding (nee Constans) and Colton Constans. A special thank you to the Eagan Police Department for their kindness.

in 1886 Colonel Delos A. Monfort was our first Fire King Coal. Our first Vulcanus Rex Winter Carnival king was in 1916 and from that day forth we have put a Krewe on the street ever since. That’s a century of delivering the legend.
