by Neill J. O’Neill President,  Vulcan Community Charities | General Flameous 1979

In 2009, Vulcan Community Charities was organized as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, under the leadership of Stan Karowski, Bob Matson, Lawrence Anderson, Tony Nemo, Steve Casalenda and Chris Danielson and others who remain very involved with F&B. Seventeen years later, the VCC is still thriving, fulfilling its mission of supporting the Twin Cities community and its residents, as well as the Saint Paul Winter Carnival and its supporters. Over the years, many F&B members have stepped forward to serve on the VCC Board, along with members of the public, serving in multiple capacities in promoting our city and this Carnival. The growth and success of the VCC has been due to the efforts of many, all of whom deserve recognition. Salute to you all.

The current Board consists of James Quandt and Thomas Ademite, our public members, and F&B members Lou Bruno, Jeffrey Hunter, Leslie Malmquist, Steve Frattalone, Steve Casalenda, Bill Kleineck, Chris Danielson and Neil J. O’Neil as its President. Through the hard work of each Board member, but with special thanks to Lou Bruno, last year was our most successful in fundraising to date. The VCC started on a shoestring but, over its first 17 years, it has been able to fulfill over $100,000 in Grant Applications. There are Applications that have been turned down or limited, not because they were not worthy, but often because of our still limited funds and/ or because the Application did not fall within our Mission Statement. We encourge you all to continue not only to assist the VCC in its fundraising efforts, but to make us aware of possible Grant opportunities.

On behalf of past, current and future VCC Boards, we thank F&B for this opportunity to serve our community and promote the Saint Paul Winter Carnival! Let’s go perform the legend.
