Winter Carnival Sister Festivals
MINNESOTA
The Minneapolis Aquatennial is an Annual Outdoor Event. The event is held in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, during the third full week of July. Originating in 1940, overshadowing the teamster picnics “to take the minds of Minneapolis citizens off past troubles and focus all minds throughout the state on some pleasant event”, the Minneapolis Aquatennial celebrates the city’s lakes, rivers, and streams. Advertised as the “Best Days of Summer” the festivities initially included some 200 events over 10 days. Hence (hence Aqua-ten-ial).
The La Crescent Apple Festival was founded in September 1949. It was founded by Ralph Jones and Mel Hickenbotham with the purpose of promoting La Crescent, its apple industry, and “putting La Crescent on the map”. The first Apple Festival was a huge success, drawing a crowd of nearly 20,000 people. La Crescent Applefest is a community celebration that takes place every year during the 3rd weekend in September. Applefest is a wonderful event that has something for everyone, which includes entertainment, carnival, amazing food, kids games, a flea market, a car show, and everyone’s favorite, the KING APPLE PARADE! We would love to see everyone join us this year for La Crescent Applefest!

The Ancient City Privateers of Saint Augustine
We are a Pirates Paradise of Fun Events. We help people learn the history of St Augustine by participating in fun community events. We provide educational, historical pirate activities in a safe, family-oriented environment. The year 1982 was the beginning for the pirates in St. Augustine. Just a mere crew of four, the Maiden’s Pub, then S.L.O.P.S., later to be called The Crew of the Blackheart. In 2007 more people joined the Blackhearts. Some of those Blackhearts and others jumped on board to create a crew of Pirates that were historically correct for educational and re-enactment purposes. Sharing their passion for history and maritime, the crew worked to put on events to raise money for Maritime Scholarships for the children of the community to attend the Lighthouse summer camp program called L.A.M.P. In 2008 a crew of ten would hold the first Pirate Gathering at the Fountain of Youth, putting St. Augustine, Florida on every Pirate’s map. Come visit and experience this legend.
